Nadine shares the creative edqe where her art quilting and weaving meet as “weavequilt.” Combining quilting and weaving challenges the concepts of design, texture, and tension. It demands a new look at yarn, fabric, embellishment and finishing technique required for this hybrid textile.

***Theme and Variation: More Weaving That Sings—a pictorial history of the Theo Moorman inlay technique
This presentation explains the creative weave structure with the unusual name that uses two sizes of warp to achieve design inlay on the surface of the fabric. My weaving exploration has focused on the Moorman technique and its variations to explore materials, texture, form, and to express meaning. I’ve collected images from weavers from around the world who have used for clothing, rugs, wall hangings and home furnishings.
***Beyond Plaid: Fiber Artists and Music of Scotland—travel & tales from Orkney to the Borders
In a country where there are more sheep than people, fiber is still an important aspect of everyday life in Scotland. Interest in Celtic music, culture, spirituality, imagery, dance, Shetland sheep, and the Gaelic language has been growing worldwide in recent years with good reason. Scotland is alive with ingenuity and creativity. See the reproduction of the Unicorn Tapestries at Stirling Castle, fabulous felting, sheep farmers, and the rocks, water, and lochs that inspire the makers. This montage of music, images and textiles will introduce you to fiber artists in Scotland using their rich, cultural influence and heritage to produce work: plaid and beyond.
***A Rumpelstiltskin Delight: Double Warp Overlay Rugs and Design
If you like double weave, or weaving rugs, or just want your weaving designs to flow, this hybrid technique is for you! The versatile Theo Moorman technique combined with Collingwood’s 3-end block weave gives two distinctly different sides to a rug or table runners It is slightly easier than spinning straw into gold! Called “Double Warp Overlay,” this technique is based on earlier work by Barbara Hand. Threading of two sizes of rug warp gives unlimited design potential.
***Spirit Song: The Woven Liturgical Tradition
As long as cloth has been woven, it has probably been used for ritual purposes. This program focuses on handwovens and textiles being produced for churches, synagogues and places of worship. Symbols and colors associated with the seasons and various celebrations are strikingly captured with weaving. The liturgical weaving of Joyce Harter is featured in this program along with other weavers from North America working in the Christian, Jewish and other world religious practices.
Spinning Straw into Gold: Woven Harmonies—the rhythmic and metaphoric link of weaving and music
Are you tired of sitting at programs and falling asleep as soon as the lights go out for the slide viewing? Do you always play your favorite recorded music as you weave or spin? Rhythm inherently links the process of weaving and spinning with music. You can close your eyes but keep your ears open during this upbeat performance of fiber related songs, the history of weaving music and of work and artists inspired by music.
Woven Wearables for Every Body—a trunk show
Wearables from handwoven fabric that fit, feel wonderful to wear, and look great are a challenge to many weavers. In this program you’ll touch actual garments and see images of clothing for all kinds of bodies and clothing construction abilities. From loom shaped garments, to sewing patterns that require only a few straight seams, to tailored garments, discover a pattern that will work for you.
Make the garment sing with the right weave structure and yarns. Discover how textured plain weave gives marvelous drape and allows for combining many different yarns in the warp and weft. Complete the garment with embellishment and finishing touches that tastefully accompany your look. Leave with not only ideas but a plan of action to create a wearable that gets worn!

Warping On a Shoestring—paddles and shoestrings oh my!
Do hand issues make tying on and tensioning a warp uncomfortable? Are you a spinner or a beginning weaver unsure of warping a loom? Are you an experienced weaver but haven’t used shoestrings to tie-on and tension a warp?Do you own a warping paddle but don’t know how to use it?
If you answer “yes” to any one of those questions help is on the way in this hands-on program! Learn how to modify your loom for easier back-to-front warping, use shoestrings for tying on and tensioning a warp regardless of how you wind on, and reduce warp waste. Using a slot-and-hole paddle we’ll discover the tricks to making mixed warps.
Entangled Web—a weaver’s approach to creative focus
Do you build your stash of supplies and ideas, instead of creating with that material? At some point in our weaving, spinning lives, we become overwhelmed with the stash, the clutter, life’s events, and we just can’t seem to get anything woven or made. Or we are in a rut of using the same color palette, or yarn or structure because we feel safe. Part humor, part philosophy, part therapy, part technique, this program is designed to motivate and help you focus on realizing your next project and celebrate the way our wonderful weaver-minds work!
Scottish Textiles & Waulking
As interest in all things Celtic has grown worldwide in recent years, the tradition of waulking woven cloth is also enjoying a resurgence. Before industrialization of weaving, Scottish weavers finished their wool fabric by thumping and rubbing cloth while singing songs.
This participatory event utilizes handwoven cloth provided by guild members and traditional Gaelic waulking songs and non-traditional music to set the tempo and rhythm. Depending on the size of the handwoven fabric we will full one to three different fabrics. This is an event that the weaver and non-weaver alike can enjoy, it brings smiles to all involved!
