Nadine Sanders Artist Statement

Music and making things go hand-in-hand for me. Even as a child growing up on a farm, I made treasures with my hands and sang in public. Close vocal harmonies like those of my trio, Straw Into Gold, relate to the successful marriage of structure, design and materials that make weavings sing! The rhythms of weaving, quilting, and music-making are the touchstone of my creative energy.

Biography

Nadine weaves wall hangings, clothing, and rugs with a focus on pictorial design. She makes art quilts that combine weaving and quilting. She weaves commissions for church paraments. Writings, songs, photography, people, and wilderness adventures inspire her designs.

She has presented over 150 workshops, programs and retreats in the USA, Canada, and the UK. Nadine teaches because she loves helping students realize their creative potential.

Nadine skillfully organizes Threads, Ruins and Tunes tours in Scotland. Small groups explore Scotland and visit the Outer Hebrides and Orkney Islands.

Nadine and mentor Joyce Harter wrote two books on the Theo Moorman weaving technique. Nadine created the DVD and companion booklet Warping on a Shoestring.
